I chose Washington on purpose. After years of searching, Bellingham became home, and the Pacific Northwest has given me exactly what I hoped it would. The seasons here are real. The landscape asks something of you. There's a rhythm to life in Washington that I've come to love deeply.
There's also a particular kind of exhaustion that comes with it.
The outdoor culture here is inspiring and relentless in equal measure. The pressure to be active, present, intentional, adventurous, to make the most of every season before it changes, can start to feel like another thing you're not quite doing right. Washington is more than its coastline and its coffee culture. Eastern Washington, the rural communities, the places that don't make it into the lifestyle magazines, those places carry their own weight, their own isolation, their own need for care that isn't always easy to access.
If you're somewhere in Washington feeling like you can't quite keep up, with the pace, with the expectations, with yourself, this is a space to slow down.
